1865 Government Farm Village in Madras

In 1865, Governor Sir William Denison established Government Farm in the Madras region, spanning 300 acres with a surrounding fence. Located in what is now the Guindy/Saidapet area, the farm represented an early colonial agricultural initiative. The project reflected British administrative efforts to promote structured farming practices in southern India during the 19th century. Its legacy remains part of Chennai's historical landscape.
