3,950 acres of former Indiana coal mine land protected for wildlife

Nearly 4,000 acres of former coal mine land in Indiana have been secured for wildlife conservation. The initiative aims to prevent habitat fragmentation and restore natural ecosystems through a collaborative effort between public agencies. The newly designated Busseron Creek Fish and Wildlife Area opened to the public in April 2025 for recreational use.
